Welcome to Mohammed F. Tarawneh website.

The establishment of the department of anthropology in 1986 came as a direct response to the urgent and rising need in the Arab region in general and Jordan in particular for specialized academic institutions dedicated to social and cultural research.

Anthropology is concerned with human diversity and commonality over time and across geographical space. The study of anthropology is concerned both with the biological features that make us human (such as physiology, genetic makeup, nutritional history and evolution) and with social aspects (such as language, culture, politics, family and religion).

Among the various factors that contribute to providing the discipline of anthropology with its sense of uniqueness and distinctiveness is the methodology employed by anthropologists in conducting their research. Fieldwork is considered the core of the anthropological approach in collecting and analyzing ethnographic data.

Since its establishment, the department of anthropology has cooperated with various local, regional, and international academic and research organizations and institutions. Such fruitful cooperation resulted in accumulating valuable data and knowledge on different phenomena and issues related to the Jordanian society in particular.
